Beauty Trend Spotting

Things are heating up in NYC. Nope, not talking about the weather--I'm talking about fabulous beauty events. Last week I got the scoop on two beauty trends I want to share.

First, I spent an afternoon learning about a fab collab from Pantene and Clairol. You know I've been using the Pantene Age Defy line for a year and have seen fabulous results--especially taming the wiry grays that pop in. Now they are targeting the 7 signs of aging with the Clairol Age defy color products. These are at-home coloring products you can use to cover gray and restore luster and shine. The event was hosted at the James Corbett Studio and had a guest speaker Vivian Diller talking about the "negotiation with aging" we all go through. James Corbett, is the Clairol Color Director, and he walked us through the process. TIP: use the Step on conditioner from mid-shaft downwards to keep the color consistent over time.

Vivian talked about the aging process and how women feel about it. I for one have decided gray hair is not in the game plan! Thanks to the new hair products on the market, coloring your hair is quick, easy and looks great. I'm not alone when thinking hair can impact how you feel. When surveying women 35+, Clairol found out:

  • 91% have gray hair
  • Women agreed gray hair did make them look old (47%)
  • 80% of women said it made them feel unattractive

Age Defy is available in 12 shades wherever health and beauty aids are sold; $8.99 suggested retail price. For more information, women can visit Clairol.com or call the color experts at 1-800-CLAIROL.

The other buzz-worthy event I attended is was the opening of Pucker Makeup Studio in SoHo.Founders Hiyam McKelvey and Julio Sandino opened a chic, bi-level studio and filled it with the most talented makeup artists incredible artists. Pop in to get pretty for a big party, interview, date, board meeting or just because. What I love? The artists are talented, AND there is NO pressure to buy anything. They only sell lipstick (77 shades).

My makeup artist was Yoli. I am thrilled with the way she did my eyes. From start to finish, the look took 45 minutes and would cost $50 plus tip. A great treat for any busy NYC mom or any woman visiting NYC looking for a way to experiment and play with makeup without a big commitment.

The makeup mastermind is Julio Sandino. He began his career as a makeup artist in the 1990’s assisting the legendary Francois Nars. Now he and Hiyam work on "regular" women to make them look extraordinary. You can choose one of the signature Looks from the menu below or customize something.
