Cookies for Santa... He definitely deserves a reward (or, you know, several million!) for his enormous effort--and he needs the sugary fuel to get his epic workload done on Christmas Eve. So bake up a batch of something delicious and decadent with your little elves to keep the jolly big guy merrily motivated.
Making cookies on Xmas Eve with my kiddies is a treasured tradition. They get so excited to prepare a satisfying snack for Santa--and we all reap the rewards of our not-so-selfless donation. We usually make shortbread cookies. They're quite labor intensive--at least for a novice baker like myself--but it's the one time of year we break out my family's super secret recipe. (Seriously, I had to beg, borrow, and plead to get my hands on this "heirloom.") I guess I won't reveal the big mystery, but I'll say this--extra butter makes everything better (except, you know, cholesterol.) I'm a cookie purist, so we decorate our shortbreads sparingly to preserve the rich flavor--no frosting and maybe a little sprinkle of sanding sugar.
But to each his own... Santa doesn't discriminate, a long as his cookies are made with love and holiday cheer, he'll happily leave you with a plate of crumbs. Chocolate chip, butter, gingerbread—we’ve rounded up the absolute tastiest treats he'll absolutely love. And don't forget some carrots for the reindeer!
