Tis the season to curl up and cuddle with your cuties and enjoy some seriously deserved down time. The holidays are hectic, and y'all deserve a quiet break, a sweet snuggle, and some holly-jolly magical family moments. This weekend will inevitably be stressful leading up to the merry big day, but be sure to take some time to slow down, soak it all in, and enjoy the fleeting festive season with the people you love most.
My suggestion? A holiday viewing party! Popcorn, matching pajamas, and cookie cuddles. We love, love, love Christmas specials around here, and so we're so excited about the new lineup of options from Amazon Prime Video Kids.
We were lucky enough to receive a viewing-party present from Amazon Prime last week to celebrate the exclusive releases, and my two littles were over-the-moon happy to unbox all the gifted goodies. So, before we actually screened all the specials, we got to read the books a few of them were adapted from, bake our own 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie' treats, and prepare hot chocolate... because, movie snacks are a must!
We can't read enough holiday books this time of year at bedtime, so we were so pleased to add a few new picks to our growing Christmas collection--and now that the kids have watched the specials, I should say that these books have become instant faves and are on constant rotation.
Naturally, the cookie kit was a hit with the kids and provided the perfect screening fuel for my hungry impish elves. (Plus, we love the Mouse series, so this mix positively delighted my kids.)
Keeping your New Year's resolutions
The New Year is off to a fresh start, and many of us are committed to doing something or many things with more intention this year. But it's tough to stay on track. In fact, “Quitters Day”, which falls on January 14th this year, is the day when most people give up. How can you ...read more
Kids in the Kitchen: Mini Banana Waffle Pies With Peanut Butter Dipping Sauce
School has started back for many (us included!), and today's Kid's in the Kitchen recipe makes for a perfect breakfast or after-school snack. We made ours for an after-school snack the other day and my second grader loved it. We call this recipe Mini Banana Waffle Pies With ...read more
The Best Overnight French Toast Recipe
We've hit the winter lull--that lengthy stretch of season with no plans, no parties, nothing to do, and nowhere to go. I have to admit that at first, I welcomed the quiet obligation-free weekends of January. After the nonstop hustle-bustle pace of November and December, my family ...read more
But I digress... Back to the viewing party. Step 1. Bake cookies. Step. 2. Make some hot cocoa. Step 3. Grab a cozy blanket (we adore our new Pete the Cat fleece knit). Step 4. Cozy up together and stream these new Amazon Prime original specials...
Click Clack Moo: Christmas at the Farm: It’s Christmas time and the farm animals have a problem: how to buy Farmer Brown the present of his dreams, a Tumbletron 300 clothes dryer. It’s a race against time for them, and for Duck who has his own problem: upping his “nice” numbers for Santa to get off the “naughty” list. P.S. Be sure to check out the book, Click Clack Ho Ho Ho!
If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie: If it's holiday time in Mouse's house then, that means Christmas cookies (including a special one for Santa, of course), caroling...and one nearly-destroyed holiday pageant. Can Mouse and his animal friends save the show, without getting utterly distracted along the way? It's a wild ride as Mouse and his friends embody the friendship and caring at the heart of the holiday season. P.S. Be sure to sneak one of Santa's cookies on Christmas Eve and read Merry Christmas, Mouse together.
The Snowy Day: Based on the award-winning and gorgeously illustrated book by Ezra Jack Keats. Peter goes on a magical, snowy walk to his Nana's house to bring home their Christmas Eve dinner.
Pete the Cat: A Groovy New Year: It’s New Year’s Eve and Pete the Cat needs a New Year’s Resolution, but he doesn’t even know what a resolution is! So, with the help of his family and friends, Pete sets out on a fun, musical ride to find one. But as the clock ticks down to midnight, Pete is still resolutionless...will he find one in time? P.S. This one is available on Dec. 26--perfect way to wind the kids down from all the Christmas Day antics!
Amazon Prime also has released great original holiday episodes! We're particularly excited about season two of The Stinky & Dirty Show. The first episode, “Sleigh Riders,"takes place on early Christmas morning. Stinky andDirty find a crashed sleigh filled with gifts, and decide to deliver them but they must find ways to move themselves in snow, and a sled on pavement in order to bring Christmas gifts to the residents of Go City!
These Amazon Prime original specials and episodes will keep the kids entertained and engaged (I can attest to this), and I loved being able to share a calm moment with them, watching all together.
But, Mama, one tip: If you have a lot of prepping and packaging and cooking to do this weekend, watch one special with your kiddos and then leave them to it... They'll be so engaged that you just might be able to get ahead of the curve and tackle your to-do list. Thank you, Amazon!... Seriously, what would we do without you? You've, once again, come through big-time this Christmas season!
Happy Holidays, friends... and happy viewing!
