I'm not much for fashion "rules," except for one...the rule of fit. Fit is king! If something doesn't fit you right, it's just not going to be flattering. Beyond that, I'm an anything goes kinda girl. And I bring that principle with me when styling looks for my little girl too. I recently put her in an outfit that totally breaks the rules. I styled black and brown...gasp...together. Throw out all those old school ideas that you have about black and brown not working in the same outfit. They can totally work together when done right.
So, let's talk about how to wear black and brown together. An easy way is to mix prints. Find a print that has both black and brown in and and pair it with another print that has one or both colors. In this case, the mixed prints are my lil' lady bean's gingham print Chester Dress from Lacey Lane and leopard print flats (similar here). But we didn't stop there...Oh no! The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree and my daughter loves to take fashion risks as much as I do. So, we topped off her look with a Vegan Fur Vest in various shades of brown. The multi-hue vest basically works as a neutral so it coordinates with the black and white print of her dress too. In fact, a faux fur vest like this is a piece every girl should have in her closet in my book...both young and not so young. Haha!
See? Black and brown can be so fun together! And you can absolutely draw inspiration from this look for your own wardrobe. I have a gingham print blouse that I plan on wearing with my own faux fur vest very soon! I feel a mommy and me moment coming on. Don't you?
