Recently, I have enjoyed a fun time away - complete with travel adventures to Massachusetts (more on that soon) and a smaller trip to Kennebunkport, Maine before the fun of camp begins for my daughters.
This included a stay at the quaint and charming Lodge on the Cove. Redesigned just a year ago, the newly remodeled Lodge on the Cove is located about two hours from Boston that is tucked away on South Main Street.
As we were driving up to the property, I loved the privacy it offered as my daughters and I were greeted with cute and beautiful cabin-style accommodations. It instantly felt "homey" and warm as well as place that was accommodating to children who wanted to freely run around. This was due to its stunning decor that was developed and created by local artists that give it a "down-home" and relaxing vibe.
As we were waiting for our room, we got acclimated in the spacious office area - complete with kids' books, games and complimentary coffee, iced coffee, tea, iced tea and water. The office space was also gorgeous to relax and sit in as I soaked in the comfortable and chic decor.
Once we were settled we went to our room, which featured 2-queen sized beds, a TV, fridge, sink, microwave and a patio area. The rooms were warm and inviting, and not stuffy, which I have found at many other hotels. I also loved the personal touches in the room like the art from David Allen, the beach chic furniture and being so close to the office where we had quick access to the nearby shuttle, pool, game area and Dory - all of which were a few short minutes away.
Before we started swimming we enjoyed a nice lunch at the adjacent, Dory, a casual dining eatery. This included options for the kids like Annie's mac and cheese, burgers, and chicken fingers and tasty bites like lobster rolls, a green salad with lobster, BLTs, hummus, chips and quac and more. Another hit was their impressive milkshake menu complete with options like oreo storm, coconut dream, apple bliss, and our favorite the dreamicle - all of which can also be added with booze.

For breakfast, we loved waking up to having an incredible selection of fresh baked goods and coffee, which is available each morning at The Lodge. For purchase, you can also get smoothies, bagels, cereal and breakfast sandwiches in the nearby kitchen area.
Every trip we have taken it is all about the pool and the one at the Lodge on the Cove will not disappoint. Located next to the Dory, this outdoor pool is the perfect refuge on a hot day. For my youngest (3 years old), there was a small area that was 1 feet deep where she loved to dip and splash. My older daughter loved the 3 feet area as she splashed and swam for almost 3 hours! In between swimming, we loved having the Dory nearby for ice cream and cold drinks (the lemonade is amazing!). This also included the use of complementary beach chairs and beach towels where you can lounge and soak in the sun.
For dinner we were excited to check out the town of Kennebunkport and used the complimentary shuttle service. Since we didn't drive here (took the Amtrak), this was a huge help - not to mention money saver - where the girls and I hopped on to get to town for dinner. We ended up at Abbondante where we dined on some of the best pizza I have ever had, salads, shrimp, pasta and fresh bread. ·
After dinner we strolled through the town - soaking in the cute shops and beautiful views. There was a calming and non-touristy vibe about the town that was even fun for young children. Of course, it helped to have kid-friendly options like Rocco's for ice cream and candy at the local candy shoppe.
We also enjoyed an incredible time at Colony Beach. This smooth sand beach was a great refuge for my daughters who loved splashing around. Another bonus was that there was so many kids there that they made friends with a girl collecting crabs and jellyfish as they joined her on this marine adventure.
While you are also at the Lodge you can enjoy unique amenities like SummerCocktail & “Mocktail” parties, Bonfires with s’mores, Family Yoga & Water Aerobics, DVDs for in-room entertainment, Complimentary beach cruisers, Kayaks & motorboats at Kennebunkport Marina and Ping pong table & lawn games. They also have special enhancements like Pick Your Own Berries and two-hour sailing trips. They also have packages where you can enjoy a movie night in your room with your favorite junk food, a kids adventure pack where they fill up a backpack with activities and toys or a fun beach adventure complete with packed picnic basket.
A picturesque and beautiful location, we were charmed by the Lodge on the Cove and the warm and friendly town of Kennebunkport where incredible summer memories were made.
