The sunny rays are here and I have already traded in my riding boots for painted toes and spring wedges. As I peruse my spring and summer wardrobe, I remind myself to check the EWG skin deep sunscreen (coming soon!) list so I can choose a safer sunscreen.
Every year this seems to be a daunting task, how do I choose a sunscreen that has the sun protection we need, but none of the chemicals and toxins, we don't?
For the children, I have always opted for full sun protection from rash guards. I love that they can spend hours at the beach or pool and I don't have to worry about slathering on sunscreen because they get all day sun protection from their rash guards. Last year, we joined them and practically wore out our Lands' End swim gear. You just can't beat their quality, classic styling and affordable pricing.
But what about days spent outdoors but not near the water? Rash guards are not a great option for days spent biking or playing at the park. This year I am trying a light and airy tunic like the one from Craghoppers complete with SolarShield. I love that it provides the 50+ UPF sun protection and looks equally great with shorts, capris or over a swimsuit. The material is comfortable to wear, the style as easy as those long summer days, and it has the full sun protection that I need.

Two brands that really stand out when it comes to Sun Protective fashion are Mott 50 and Coolibar.
Coolibar literally has every type of 50 UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) sun protection you can think of, from t's and capris to dresses, fitness apparel and I love that they feature both a petite and a plus line.
Looking for coverage for the kids? They have a bunch of simple yet totally effective sun protective pieces for your little ones. They have a collection for everyone in the family. Coolibar does carry the best in sun hats too. I received one as a gift and wore it nearly every day last summer (I loved the way I could squish it down and pack it without ever ruining the shape.)
Mott 50 has adorable kids wear and plenty of fashionable pieces for mom as well. They carry a full line of sun protective beach wear as well as plenty of protective clothing options for the whole gang. From easy dresses to swingy cardis and classic striped boatneck t's, Mott 50 will keep you covered from the sun without having to ever reapply the gunky sunscreen.
Another cool option for kids are Sunsleeves by Sun -Angels. Just slip the sleeves over your child's arms and presto, instant and stylish sun-protection! I love these for our local park as it is set on the water and it is always a struggle to find the balance of protection without too much coverage and without the sunscreen creating a sand magnet to my children!
I am ready to spend many glorious hours out and about in the sunshine and now this year we'll all be fashionably covered in our stylish sun protective clothing.
