If you are looking for a family getaway that is about the FAMILY then you need to head to Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos. Resist the urge to hit the outlets on your way in to a family getaway that offers plenty to do for everyone from parents to kiddos. (Besides you can always hit up your fave store on the way home!)
As soon as you enter GWL, you will notice the friendly hospitable vibe. The entire staff is looking to accommodate your needs as a family and is looking to keep a smile on the whole family's face. You will be welcomed with fun furry wolf ears and bright cheery smiles.
We stayed in the Kids' cabin suite and it was perfect for our family of five. The kids had bunks to sleep in and a clean, prepped pack and play was already in the room upon our arrival. I was also surprised to see a voucher for two swim diapers as well as a package of baby wipes, and a diaper pail. Finally, a solution to what to do with smelly diapers when you're away from home!
Our room even had a green space complete with patio (others offered balconies) and that was great to get some fresh air after a long car ride. But of course, we quickly headed to what the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos is about, the giant indoor water park. This massive indoor water park is a good time waiting to happen. From big pail buckets splashing down to lazy river rides to a wave pool, the kids were kept busy for hours!
They also enjoyed the many slides offered in various heights...and we can't forget the newest addition of Slide boarding! Slide boarding is compatible with an app you can download where you basically are trying to beat your best time as you slide down an exciting tube slide. Your times carry over so if you head to another GWL location, you can continue to best your best score.
Besides the indoor water park, there's plenty to do. Dry off and head to the bowling room, the "black lite" mini golf or the arcade. Beware your kids will be amassing tickets in no time and will have a ball choosing a token prize to take home.

We made a stop at the children's gift shop and choose, stuffed and clothed our very own GWL stuffed friend to take home with us and help us remember what a great time we had. We also participated in a brief interactive game that helped Wiley (one of the GWL signature characters) solve a mystery.
The kids really took to exploring little nooks and crannies of the property and visiting each station. Afterwards, the children also decorated their own t-shirts which I will share that they wear very often! It was a great way to build in some down time for the whole family. While visiting the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos we enjoyed the nightly story time as well as the evening dance parties where all the children gather to just dance together. You should expect nothing but smiles! In addition to BINGO, wolf walks, coloring time, there's also an outdoor ropes course as well as pool with cabanas for rent.
As far as eats, there's casual fare offered within the water park area including burgers, salads and hummus plates. For take out, both Starbucks and delicious pizza from "As Hungry as A Wolf', which you can eat on "Main Street" if you can snag a table or head back to your room to enjoy. We did most of our dining at the Loose Moose cafe which offered an expansive buffet. There was a variety of food including plenty of healthy options, "make your own", as well as carving stations. I was relieved to see great food choices beyond what is typically known as "children's menu" items and I felt I could get quality nutritious whole food in their bellies even while we were vacationing. Which left plenty of room for a stop at the sweets shop for yummy fudge and ice cream.
Great Wolf Lodge was an exciting, friendly and memorable vacation for us all. We came home recharged~having plenty of chances to get our wiggles out, reconnected and completely satisfied.
Visit Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos and come see for yourself why it is a happy family friendly place to travel with children.
