The world premiere of Fancy Nancy: The Musical took place on Saturday, September 29, and Momtrends NYC was there to walk the pink carpet!
Based on the beloved Fancy Nancy books written by Jane O'Connor and illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser, the show loosely follows the story in Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet, in which Nancy and her best friend Bree look forward to being mermaids in their dance recital, only to find the part (gasp!) goes to another girl in the class. A few surprises ensue, and Nancy must not ony embrace the seemingly un-fancy part she is given - a tree - but also watching Bree's be given the part of the mermaid in a last minute cast change.
I attended Fancy Nancy: The Musical with my kids - two daughters ages 7 and 9, and my son age 3. They all loved the show, which is recommended for ages 2 to 10, but my nine-year-old daughter was definitely at the top of the age range. I will be honest that I didn't even realize I was brigning a boyto seeFancy Nancy, and I'm happy to say he was entralled by the show. The story line is compelling and there are plenty of jokes and songs to make it a show with great appeal for both boys and girls.
After the play, the kids in the audience we're invited up on stage to join the cast. You can see my son, bottom right below, up on stage and excitedly going over to meet one of the actresses.
