This past weekend my family and I had the chance to step on the Norwegian Breakaway, a 146,600 gross ton ship, to learn more about this massive ship and to see first-hand what they offer families. Designed by artist Peter Max, the ship has the capacity to hold more than 4,000 guests with unique features like an "open-air boardwalk, The Waterfront, and 678 Ocean Place; a wide range of indoor and outdoor venues on three dynamic decks that will create a whole new complex at sea that enhances guests connection with the ocean."
As someone who has never been on a cruise ship with my family, I was excited to learn more about this travel option for families. The event kicked-off with a talk from the Cruise Director who told us all about the shows, dining options and Nickelodeon experience on the boat. Later on, actress Marcia Gay Harden who spoke of her love of ships - especially with her kids as they can experience the coolest kid clubs as well as a place where she can relax and kick back.
To see all of the entertainment options that the Breakaway we enjoyed a preview of a musical selection from Rock of Ages, a preview of the comical act by Second City, a viewing of the incredible Jungle Fantasy, dancing from Burn The Floor and lively music from the Fat Cats. We dinned on lobster, chicken, and delicious ice cream sandwiches as were given food from our waiters that were dressed as birds. The kids got a kick out of this experience- especially as we saw a kid get slimed as part of the Nickeloden demo.
My older daughter then went to see some of the offerings for the children, where my husband, younger daughter and I went on a tour of the boat to see their massive casino, Aqua Park and its five full-size water slides, and the Oceanplace that was filled with restaurants, bars, shopping and options for nighttime entertainment. They also have a
Sailing from NYC, this would be a great option for families in this area since you don't have to pay for multiple airfares and you can experience the best in travel with itineraries to the Bahamas, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.
I also liked that they had a lot to offer both the kids and the adults where kids could enjoy live characters, poolside games, story time, camp and numerous water activities, while the adults could relax and enjoy spa services, fine dining and numerous entertainment options.
With the many options for families, traveling on the Norwegian Breakaway is a great option for families as they can offer so much to kids and adults - creating a memorable experience that families will treasure.
