Eloise always treated The Plaza hotel as her playground, but now she has a playhouse all her own. In December 2009, the Eloise shop opened it's doors tucked into New York's famous Plaza hotel.
Eloise was introduced to the world by Kay Thompson in 1955. The high-spirited six-year-old calls The Plaza her home. For decades parents and girls have followed Eloise's escapades as she explores the hotel with her pet pug Weenie, turtle Skipperdee and her mostly companion, Nanny.
Book lovers will adore the Eloise shop that's decorated to be faithful to Eloises indomitable spirit and distinctive color palette. The mostly pink 2,100-square-foot space welcomes Eloise fans young and old to re-enact their favorite vignettes from the Eloise books and movies, or, if theyd "rawther," shop for a full assortment of adorable Madame Alexander dolls, Eloise books, Eloise-inspired bathrobes and bath towels, and exclusive product lines including the Eloise in Paris doll.
You can also book a stay in the Eloise Suite–a one-of-a-kind collaboration with Betsey Johnson. The fancy two-room, Eloise Suite is a pricey mix of luxury and whimsy. Located on the 18th floor this room is rendered in an Eloise-approved palette of pink and black. The suite is also tricked out with Eloise DVDs and books, a tea set and Eloise and Weenie dolls, Eloise robes and towels. Are you sitting down? Rates for the Eloise Suite start at $995/night.
And there's also a lot of special events. We enjoyed a fun pre-Halloween event at the Eloise Spooktacular Event at the Plaza Hotel.
As part of the Eloise at the Plaza event series, the event started out where we meet in the pinktastic Eloise Shop where we walked as a group to the nearby Three Tarts in the Plaza's gourmet food court.
Here we enjoyed making shadow puppets by tracing bat, cat, owls and pumpkin stickers as we learned about the history of how shadow puppets have been made for thousands of years during Halloween.
While the kids were making their foam shadow puppets, they also noshed on sweet treats and drank hot chocolate from Three Tarts. As the crafts were drying, we then listened to a Halloween book as the attentive staff asked questions along the way and encouraged the kids to listen.
The kids had a blast creating, listening and eating sweet treats in celebration of Halloween. Additionally, The Plaza hotel will be hosting classes inspired by the beloved storybook character, Eloise that will allow children to learn and play while being immersed in fabulous experiences. The classes will truly bring the holiday spirit with activities ranging from baking to dancing and even flower arranging.
At Christmas, Santa hosts events with Eloise from teas to cookie decorating, you won't want to miss them.
