Summer isn't over yet, but there's a good chance your local stores are already stocking back-to-school supplies. One of the first pieces of gear you'll need for heading back to school is a backpack. Whether your little one is just starting kindergarten or heading into junior high, I've rounded up some of the best backpacks to prepare your little learner for heading to school.
Personally, I'm always on the lookout for backpacks for my kids that are simple, solid and functional. I love that these backpacks aren't slathered with cartoon characters and can perform just as well on the way to school as they can on a weekend trail hike. If your child bikes to school, definitely check out the Camelbak backpack that includes a place for school gear and a 50 oz. reservoir for water.
Animal backpacks continue to be a favorite, especially for preschoolers. Whatever your child's favorite animal is, there's sure to be a backpack match out there. While some kids may prefer a plush backpack, the dangling paws and claws are more prone to getting dirty. Instead, I like these coated packs that are easier to keep clean.
Skip the Crowds and Take Your Family Skiing in Waterville Valley

My boys have been jonesing for anything with robots or monsters on it lately, inspired by two recent movie watches - Monsters Vs. Aliens and the new Monsters University. (Both are cute if you haven't seen them yet.) My favorite of this bunch has to be the toothy grin and blue claw toes on the Gap backpack - sure to hold everything your little monster needs for a day at school.
For girls that love their pink and purple, I love this collection of sweet and stylish backpacks for girls. Whether she loves sparkles or hearts, pokkadots or stripes, these backpacks will provide plenty of space without sacrificing her sense of style.
