Have you guys seen the previews for the new film, The House, that comes out on June 30th? It stars the hilarious Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell as parents, Scott and Kate Johansen, who are trying to come up with their daughter, Alex’s, college tuition...and, of course, hilarity ensues complete with an illegal in-home casino! It reminds me of a crazy situation we just went through at my own house. I had an ah ha mommy moment, you see, that resulted in us purging, staging and selling our house in less than three weeks. I kid you not!
Once upon a time, the hubs and I were young, clueless first-time home buyers who also happened to be young, clueless expecting first-time parents too. It was quite the combo. Bwah! So, here’s the story. We got married and a very short time later found ourselves pregnant with our son. Like most nesting mamas to be I went a little bonkers and decided that we HAD to be in our first home before he was born. I was not going to accept anything less.
You know what that meant? That meant we didn’t do as much research into the neighborhood as we should have. For example, did we look to see if it was close enough to our favorite stores and restaurants etc.? Did we check its proximity to where my mom would be living? Well, being that all of those scenarios were on the opposite side of town, the answer is no. Haha! So, while I’ve made many magical memories in this charming little home of ours, I’ve been ready to bail on it and head closer to the side of town I spend the most time in for a while now.
So, about a month ago I got hit with another moment of mommy mania, I like to call it my ah ha mommy moment, and decided that my kids just HAD to be in a different school district before the next school year started and I just HAD to live closer to my mom tout de suite. Let me tell you how fun it was to be married to me the past few weeks. I’m quite the project manager.
Picture a GIANT house purge involving multiple dumpsters, staying up until the wee hours for many moons in a row, and manic me basically throwing away anything and everything that wasn’t nailed down. You think I jest. I sent my poor kids away to their Mimi’s house so I could toss their possessions without debate. I know. I’m the worst. Hey, mama needed to sell her house and sell it FAST. And I did just that. Now what? Where exactly are we going to live?
That, my friends, is a story for another day... You can say one thing about life with moi, it’s never dull. Clearly, I like to keep everyone on their toes. Haha! In all seriousness though, my crazy get-the-house-ready-to-sell-in-a-few-weeks mission was all for my babies. I mean, look at those faces! And I know I’m not the only mama who’s gone to great lengths for her kids. My insane house selling timeline doesn’t seem quite so crazy next to an illegal casino. And I bet your crazy mama moment doesn’t either. Hahaha!
