Get ready, it's time to kick off the pre-holiday shopping and for us, that means getting an advent calendar. As a little girl I remember loving opening up each little window as Christmas approached. Now I am continuing the tradition thanks to Hearth Song.
Did you know the first advent calendar dates back to 1851? This German (we are not German, Polish and Portuguese) tradition took hold at our house earlier on. At my house, Mom and Dad let me open them right before bed time and it always led to sweet dreams. Hearth Song has an amazing assortment (more than 30 calendars). Some are quite religious (the Baby Jesus calendar has bible verses inside) others are more playful, such as the Dear Santa Sticker Calendar. (shown right; $6.98)
My pick was theChristmas Star (top left feature; $10.98) We plan to hang this star-shaped advent calendar in a spot of honor by the kitchen. The 17" calendar has a touch of sparkle and is packed with images of the season (Santa, holly, cookies, angels) in a quilt-like pattern. Click here to see the full assortment and remember to order early so this arrives for December 1st.
