Saturday Sips: Holiday Cranberry Martini

December is here! All month I'll be sharing some of my favorite holiday cocktails to serve at your holiday parties, a cozy night in, or you know, on a Wednesday after adulting all day long. First up, the cranberry gin martini.

A few days ago we shared some tasty ways to use fresh cranberries, but this cocktail might be my favorite way. Though I often have served pomtinis at my holiday parties, last year I branched out and tried this cranberry gin martini from Swooned and now it's in my regular holiday rotation.

I love this cocktail because it's festively red, made with fresh cranberries and not the bottled juice, and only requires a few simple ingredients. Plus, I can make it in bulk AND in advance making it perfect for a party. And did I mention that it's wonderfully potent? (You've been warned.)

Step one - make the cranberry simple syrup.

Cranberry Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup of fresh cranberries
  • 3/4 cup of water
  • 1/3 cup of sugar

Add the ingredients to a small pot on the stove. Stir. Cover with a lid and cook on medium-low for approximately 7-10 minutes or until the cranberries “pop.” Mash with a spoon and reduce the heat to low. Cook another 5 minutes until you notice the sides of the mix starting to gel on the pot. Strain by putting through a fine mesh sieve or use a tablespoon to remove only the juice for the cocktail and save the rest for a jam or traditional cranberry sauce.

I made a triple batch in these pictures since one bag had three cups of cranberries. Now you're ready to assemble your cocktail. This recipe makes one drink, but it's easy to make this cocktail in bulk if you keep the ratios the same.

Cocktail Ingredients

  • 2 ounces of gin
  • 1 ounce of cranberry-infused simple syrup
  • 1 ounce of dry vermouth
  • Fresh cranberries and rosemary for garnish

Add ice, gin, and cranberry syrup to a cocktail shaker and shake to chill. Pour into a chilled martini glass and garnish.
