I'm listening to Sound Check right now, and they aretalking about free summer concerts. And I thought--what a genius way to get the kiddiesinvolved. Who want to pay $50 to take your kid to hear music they might hate. Free music is the best way to expose kids to new vibes without making a big commitment. So here's the list
June 11 Allen Toussaint at MetroTech 12 noon (perfect for kids!)
June 24 Easy Star All-Stars at Stuy Town Oval (series of events every Wednesday from 6-9 pm)
July 10 Pains Of Being Pure At Heart at South Street Seaport 6 pm
July 17Superchunk at South Street Seaport (Friday night series from July 3 to August 14; music starts at 6pm with a Guest DJ and bands go on around 7pm)
July 18 Siren Festival at Coney Island with Built To Spill, Micachu, & The Raveonettes
July 24 Bettye LaVette and Budos Band at Central Park SummerStage
July 31 Kelly Clarkson performs on Good Morning America 8:30-9 am--perfect for kids!
Aug. 8 Rhys Chathams A Crimson Grail For 200 Guitars with Liquid Liquid at Lincoln Centers Damrosch Park Bandshell
Aug. 9Jazmine Sullivan with Chrisette Michele: Central Park SummerStage
Aug. 16 Dinosaur Jr. at Central Park SummerStage
Nowthese aren't all perfect for kids--but they make a great inexpensive date night! Enjoy.
