You did it, you made it to another year. If you're like me, you've set some goals and it's time to think about the New Year and the NEW YOU.
I have thought a lot about my resolutions. This year my goal is to dive deep into a few things. To grow my community and focus on quality over quantity.
5 Rules of Being a Happy Runner
More long runs in the country. Fewer glances at my phone.
More running dates with girl friends. Fewer solo treadmill sessions in windowless gyms.
More breathing. Less waiting to exhale.
More focus on how I feel. Less focus on my times.
More gear that fits my workouts. Less excuses that it's too cold.
These mind shifts will make my workouts happier and more intentional.
As I was out running by the Christmas tree graveyard (aka the streets of Brooklyn), I listened to my breath and remembered all the reasons I love running. It's time to focus on the joy exercise can bring us. The Danskin Now collection at Walmart is the perfect complement to my fitness goals for 2017.
The Danskin Now Active Leggings are amazing. They offer warmth and support—helping me power through on less than gorgeous days. They even have a reflective stripe—safety bonus for morning runs or walks.

And on the topic of support. The Keyhole Bra is what I wear to keep everything in place on my runs. Resolve to toss out your old bras that aren't doing anything for you and step up your game with some new bras—they come in tons of colors.
Pops of color are a great way to brighten your mood. The top is the Danskin Now Women's Performance 1/2 Zip Pullover Top. This cheerful orange color allows me to be seen even on gloomy days. It features "DRI-MORE wicking fabric" that removes perspiration away from your skin and keeps you dry and warm. I am also a huge fan of thumb holes to keep me warm and snug.
In addition to amping up the quality of my runs, I'm also adding in more time to stretch and meditate. As a 40+ runner, I need to embrace the changes I'm feeling and give my legs the physical and emotional support they need. To stay fit and focused for 2017, I'm making sure I roll out the yoga mat for stretching and meditation.
TIP: Even 5 minutes of focused breathing can reduce stress (read more about the benefits of deep breathing, here: http://www.health.harvard.edu/mind-and-mood/relaxation-techniques-breath-control-helps-quell-errant-stress-response)
My New Year goal is to slow down and be really intentional. Taking a few minutes to stretch in the morning and adding in a few breathing exercises is a small way to ease into the day and not feel bull-dozed by my to-do list.
I'm wearing cozy lounge wear from the Danskin Now line (available exclusively at Walmart). Easy pieces like the Core Loungepant are the perfect way to make the most of your mornings. You could wear this to drop-off the kids and to run errands after your mindfulness practice.
