Do you want to be more active, but find it hard to figure out how to fit exercise into your day? The struggle is real right? Well, never fear...We have some tried and true tips from Alison Sweeney, the host of The Biggest Loser and an on the go mother of two.
In addition to juggling her roles as a tv host and mom, she's also an actress, director and producer. In fact, her upcoming movie for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, Murder She Baked, premieres on May 2nd. So, you know she's been a busy bee! If someone with that many balls in the air can work out regularly, why can't we?!?
We recently had the opportunity to catch up with Alison and pick her brain for tips on how us fellow busy moms can make fitness a part of our daily routine...
1. As a busy mom, how do you carve out time in your day for exercise?
We make time for meetings, for taking our kids to school, for making dinner and just as important is making time for exercise. Therefore, I put my workouts in my calendar just like any other appointment. It keeps me honest and doesn't give me a reason to end my day thinking that I didn't have time for at least a 20-minute workout.
2. What advice do you have for a mom who hasn't been as active as she wants to be and is looking to make fitness part of her life again?
Often times we get bored working out or don't have an incentive. Find a friend and make a plan of working out together. Instead of going for coffee or a drink, go for a power walk. It will make the exercise go quicker and more fun for both of you. Another option is to find a new class to try and to challenge your body in a different way. I use the MINDBODY Connect app to find available classes in my area and to explore new workout options.

3. Do you have any favorite at home exercise?
I'm not sure there's a favorite, but it's always easy to do squats and lunges in and around the house. Also don't be afraid to pop in a workout DVD and get an intense burn at home.
4. What types of meals and snacks do you eat to keep you energized throughout your day?
I always start my day with a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries and a little agave. Throughout the day, I'll have packed snacks including raw almonds, cut bell peppers or cucumbers. I try to eat a healthy lunch and dinner, filled with lots of proteins and veggies. When I can, I cook dinner for the entire family and am not afraid to try new recipes or food combinations. My new tip for avoiding unhealthy snacks is to brush my teeth! I use Arm & Hammer's Truly Radiant Toothbrush and Toothpaste to give myself a strong and confident smile and it also works to eliminate my sweet tooth. :)
5. How do you fit in some exercise when you're short on time?
Good question. I have to say, that's the hardest for me but I find if I'm short on time, I can always put on my running shoes and go for a quick run outside or on the treadmill.
