I'm blogging live from the salon chair in SoHo New York. I'll be donating the cost of my blowout today to help Aveda go for a world record. To celebrate Earth Day Aveda is attempting to set the Guiness World Record for most money raised for a charity by a haircuts in a 24-hour period. The Aveda Institute (233 Spring Street) is participating in this challenge and has chairs available for you!

From now to 8:00p the Aveda Institute is participating in a global 24-hour cut-a-thon on Earth Day. Aveda stylists in salons worldwide – from Tokyo to Sydney, Moscow to London and New York to Los Angeles – are volunteering their time to offer haircuts in return for a donation to the annual Aveda Earth Month campaign.

In New York, the local charity, Clean Ocean Action, will receive 100% of the proceeds from the event and representatives will be on hand to share their work with event attendees. The goal of Clean Ocean Action is to restore, improve, and protect the water quality of the ocean and local water ways in NY/NJ.After my cut, I'm heading to the silent auction with donated items from local restaurants, shops, galleries, staff and students to see if I can bid on some goodies.

Services include:
· Student Haircuts: $20 (1 hour)
· Instructor Haircuts: $40 (45 minutes)
· Specialty Blow Dry: $10
