Notice this lovely banner in the corner of the blog? It's part of the Momtrends gives back program. This month we are featuring The National Wildlife Federation. The site is an amazing resource for parents--I encourage everyone with kids to click over today. Here's what you'll find:

Be Out There: Obesity and obsession with media are two major parenting issues. The NWF offers ideas to battle this. Take the Make Time for a Green Hour. They offer up a list of one-hour crafts and activities to get your kids engaged with nature. How about making a worm composting bin of a hummingbird feeder to celebrate Earth Day! I'm thrilled to have NWF help me think of ways to NOT let my kids be exposed to media for 7+ hours a day.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, 60 minutes of daily unstructured free play is essential to children'??s physical and mental health. Let your kids use the NWF's magazines to fuel their play. Ranger Rick (grew up with that one) Your Big Backyard, and others are made to make learning and exploring fun. A Ranger Rick subscription starts at $19.95--and awesome Earth Day gift.

The site is also packed with camping information, photos and so much more. What a splendid resource. And here's one last idea: Saturday, June 26th is the Great American Camp Out. A time to sleep under the stars and dream big dreams. Mark your calendar for this chance to unplug and reconnect with your family.
