All of NYC is crazy for the new Pier 1 park. What's not to love? This 9.5 acres green space includes, wide open grass knolls, a playground and oh the views! Take in all of New York Harbor and the Brooklyn Bridge.

The playground is geared to tots ages 2 and under, bigger kids will enjoy the waterfront promenade, and parents can rest up a bit on the "Granite Prospect"--a set of steps built from granite stones salvaged from the Roosevelt Island Bridge reconstruction along the western edge of the pier.

Cool off while enjoying the shade offered from Kentucky Coffees, Catalpas, Magnolias, Lindens, Sweetgums, Serviceberries, London Planes, and various species of Oaks--all planted to make the city seem a bit less overwhelming. There are a few concession stands (don't miss the nearby Brooklyn Ice Cream)--but this spot is all about the views and the cool(ish) breezes.
