In my quest to make party month fun and informative I bring you Australian Fairy Bread. Here's the thing: Instead of frosted cupcakes or Spiderman cakes, Down Under they go for white bread loaded with sprinkles.
I read about this phenomenon in Parents magazine and then did a bit of research. Apparently the simple version is white bread with sprinkles (they call them hundreds and thousands smashed in). Sounds like something Will Farrell would eat in the movie Elf.
My photo is from Recipezaar (thanks to Chef Flower) . This chef used butter to stick the sprinkles on and a cookie cutter to make a shape. Momtrends by no means condones the use of this much sugar, but I sure thought the tradition was interesting.
