Wusthof, the legendary knife manufacturer, has come out with a stylish new set, the Wusthof Grand Prix II, a 4-piece steak knife set in an attractive shade of red. I had heard about Wusthof's quality before, and was eager to check it out for myself.
I made a steak and was able to cut it into itty-bitty pieces for my toddler son with no trouble. I also used the knife to cut the rest of our dinner (potatoes, green beans and strawberries) and was impressed with the sharpness and ease of use. The knives are forged in Germany and utilize a new alloy that makes it possible for the blades to have a longer-lasting cutting edge.
I was also impressed with the look of the knives, which have a great handle that is both stylish and practical, fashioned from pebbled polypropylene. I think they would make a great splash of color at either a dinner party or an outdoor barbecue - attended by grown-ups. As I mentioned before these are sharp knives, and not child-friendly. And at my house, these are definitely the sharpest knives in the drawer.
The knife set comes beautifully packaged, and would be perfect for a Father's Day gift, especially for a dad who loves to grill. The set retails for a suggested $149.95 and is available exclusively at Williams-Sonoma.
