The Super Bowl is a food holiday in itself, second only to Thanksgiving in the amount of calories typically consumed. But we've found a few ways to cut the calories and please the vegetarians at your party.
Instead of a heavy seven-layer dip, dripping with fat and calories, consider a plate of crudités, complete with Tribe hummus for dipping. Tribe hummus is made with all natural ingredients and is free of artificial flavors, preservatives, hydrogenated oils, and high-fructose corn syrup.
Several varieties exist, including a classic blend with just a hint of garlic that both kids loved and a great organic sweet red pepper that was my favorite. The new Tribe with Toppings line also caught our attention. We'll be trying the Tribe with Olive Tapenade and the Tribe with Zesty Spice and Garlic soon too. For appetizers that are vegetarian-friendly and lower calorie compared to typical Super Bowl fare, we are loving the appetizers from Veggie Patch. For a healthier take on wings, try Veggie Patch's Meatless Buffalo Wings -- just add your favorite sauce and have the wipes nearby. Or, try Veggie Patch's Meatless Mini Corn Dogs for a vegetarian-friendly spin on the classic appetizer. We also loved the Veggie Patch Meatless Meatballs, perfect with our favorite sweet and sour sauce. The Veggie Patch Broccoli Bites with Cheese were also a kid favorite, a healthier style mozzarella stick. Once again, we've got a list of products we want to try next time. I always love discovering healthier new favorites for my children!
Eating vegetarian was never so tasty. Please let us know if you try any of these.
