We've got a few favorite tools that reduce the drudgery of KP duty. Don't get us wrong, we think cooking is a terrific creative outlet. The clean-up and grunt work, well we could pass on those. Microplane sent us a few graters from their Artisan collection. The Fine Grater ($11.99) is ideal for grating all types of citrus peel (we use a lot of lemon zest in your cooking). This greater sticks close to the surface of the fruit--avoiding the bitter-tasting white layer of the lemon.
The Coarse Grater ($9.95) is terrific for hard cheese (pecorino) and ginger. TIP: Keep your ginger in the freezer for easy grating and it'll also stay fresh for month and months. The collection comes with no-slip handles and can be cleaned in the dishwasher. Families with small children will appreciate that the graters (which can be sharp) include a cover.
