For busy moms, the number of disposable water bottles used on a daily basis seems staggering. With two active kids, we definitely use our fair share, and, even with recycling the bottles, I wanted a better, and reusable, solution.
We had the opportunity to try out the Filtrete Water Station from 3M and discovered an efficient solution to the nearly 30 billion plastic water bottles used in America each year.
The system features a fast-flow filtering system that can filter 64 oz of water quickly into four reusable bottles. The filter itself can be used for 100 gallons of water, approximately 3 months worth of water, and recycled with #2 plastics. The four included bottles are BPA free, dishwasher safe, and feature a leak-proof cap, something that was quickly tested and proven to work. Each bottle holds a little over 16 oz. of water, with four bottles holding ideal daily water consumption.
After setting up the system and labeling our own bottles, our family of four began testing the system. The novelty of filling the bottles appealed to my 5 and 8 year olds, and the speed of the filter made it easy to refill our bottles on the go. All four family members also found ourselves drinking more water with prepared bottles waiting in the fridge. Not only is the system environmentally friendly, we found it had health benefits. It's been great for our own water consumption!
The Filtrete System is available on Amazon.com ($29.99 for the set). The base system comes with the filtering system, one filter and four water bottles. Additional bottles and replacement filters ($19.99 each) are also available on Amazon.
