As much as it pains me to say....lunch-box-packing season is upon us. Wah! I jest. It's a wonderful opportunity to be able to pack your kids nutritious food that not only fuels them for the day ahead but hopefully teaches them healthy habits along the way. That being said, I'm ALL for lunch boxes that make my life easier. Here are five I'm eyeing this back-to-school season.

LUNCH BOXES

From making lunch packing simpler to cleaning a breeze, here are five lunch boxes that can make your M-F a bit easier.

OmieBox

Hot & cold together at last. Do you have a kid who loves to bring soup but also a cold sandwich? Or longs to bring warm mac-n-cheese along with cold apple and carrot slices? Finally there is a way to do both! In the SAME LUNCHBOX. #genius The OmieBox lunch box lets you keep hot food hot and cold food cold all packed in the same cute bento-style box. The insulated no-spill bowl can be filled with soup, noodles, pasta or other warm foods and the specially designed lid is easy for small hands to remove. The OmieBox has a handle so it can be carried on its own or you can throw it in a traditional lunch bag if you wish. I also love that the company sells replacement parts so if something breaks or wears out, you don't need to toss the whole box. BUY: Amazon

planetbox lunch box

Bag-free and dishwasher-safe. I am a huge fan of Planetboxes and have used them for the last five years with my three kids. First, I love that the design of Planetbox means that I don't have to put everything in little baggies. Before Planetboxes (B.P. as I like to call it), I could easily use 4-6 plastic sandwiches baggies for each of my kid's lunch! 6 bags x 3 kids x 5 lunches a week = 90 baggies a week! All of which often ended up in the trash. Cringe. Now, I plop sandwiches and grapes, carrots and cookies into little compartments and am bag-free. Second, the stainless steel design means that the lunch box doesn't stain, doesn't absorb smells, and is super easy to clean. They are dishwasher safe though I find it easy just to spray them out in the sink and let them sit on the counter to dry. Choose the Launch for kids who eat a full sandwich and the Rover or Shuttle for kids who like lots of little nibbles. They are an investment up front, but we are still using the ones I got five years ago. BUY: Amazon

PackIt Lunch Box

No more lost ice packs. It happens at least 2-3 times a year. One of my kids comes home with his lunch box sans ice pack. Did it get thrown away in the trash? Left on the cafeteria table? Who knows, but I'm regularly having to replace them. The solution? A freezable lunch bag by PackIt. Available in a variety of kid-friendly sizes, shapes and patterns, PackIt lunch bags go directly into the freezer overnight, allowing the built-in freezable gel to get nice and cold. In the morning, simply fill with food and you're ready to go! No ice packs to remember to put in. No ice packs for kids to remember to bring home. PackIt lunch boxes are designed to keep food cold for up to 10 hours, and I also love that it also solves my problem of where to store lunch boxes for the next day - stashed in the freezer! Bentology lunch box

No-touching food separation for picky eaters. Have a child who hates when foods touch? The solution is the adaptable compartments of the Bentology lunch boxes that let you mix-and-match different size compartments to keep food separate while still giving you the option to send different size and shape food each day. Use all five included compartments one day or remove them if needed to fit larger food in like a drink or yogurt container. Either way, food is never ever ever touching another food. BUY: Amazon

Prepd Pack Lunch Box

A grown-up lunch box: Last but not least, I'm loving this new Prepd Pack lunch box that is the solution to just eating your kids' leftovers for lunch. This lunch box has "adulting" written all over it, from its stylish modern design and being eco-friendly, to saving you money on buying lunch each day and, get this, helping you calculate your calorie and nutrition intake with the Prepd app and recipe collection. Say goodbye to that sad smushed PB&J and hello to a grown-up, delicious, nutritious real food lunch.
