yak trax road test

Try a Yak Trax road test if you are interested in winter running. Testing out the Yaktrax attachable winter treads to my running shoes got me out in the snow yesterday. Winter running can be treacherous and lead most of us to the indoor treadmill. The Yaktrax Pro are winter treads that slip over your running shoes or boots to give you better traction on packed snow or ice.

Yesterday I slipped them on for a quick two-mile snowy run. They were easy to attach over my New Balance sneakers. First I looped them over my toe and then slid them up over the heel. Finally I attached the velcro strap over the top of the laces to keep them firmly in place.

I was running on about 6-12 inches of packed snow and I never slipped. My run included an incline with a grade of about 18%--and I had firm gripping on the entire run. These won't work in powder. The snow would come over the shoe and the coils on the Yaktrax wouldn't be able to do their work.

Yaktrax are spikeless; they use a metal coil design to give you traction. The steel coils are 1.4mm and looped onto a natural rubber material. Yaktrax Pro easily conformed to my running shoes--my foot felt completely comfortable.

These aren't just for runners. We think these would also be ideal for city commuting on icy streets--especially for older folks who want to be very careful with their footing. Buy the Yaktrax Pro on Amazon ($26.95).

Momtrends was not paid for this review. We did get a pair of Yaktrax to test.
