I saved one of my favorite party features for last--a review of Plan to Partyby Elizabeth Mascali and Dawn Sandomeno. Fortunately, I run into Dawn and Elizabeth at New York area events and get to catch up on their latest adventures. These two party design lasses never stop looking for the most beautiful, most inspiring ways to entertain. Whether you plan to throw a simple night of cocktails or an elaborate black tie soiree, I promise you will gleam tips on pulling it off with flair with this new book.
Packed with gorgeous four-color photos and useful tips, this book read like chic lit (and I mean that like a compliment). Often I pick up stiff entertaining books and am turned off--not so with this book. The personalities of the two founders of www.partybluprintsblog.com shine through. There are four full-blown "Party Plans" explored and then loads of general entertaining tips. Did I mention all the cocktail recipes? Oh, yes this book is packed with juicy details.
Here's what I loved about the book:
- It encourages everyone to take a whirl at entertaining. Don't let a meager budget and lack of experience scare you off. The authors provide step-by-step instructions and plenty of checklists. Beginners could take on a night of cocktails with ease.
- Plan to Party inspires you to think out of the box. I used to discount carnations as cheap flowers--thanks to this book I see how pretty and economical they can be in big batches of the same color!
- For seasoned entertainers, you'll be surprised at how the useful tools will make your next event less stressful and more fun. Instead of mere flowers, opt for a 'Tablescape" a cohesive look that incorporates flowers, linens, candles and more. There are plenty of pictures to show you how to think beyond the standard bouquet. The steps to a tablescape are:
1.) Inventory Materials
2.) Build Foundation
3.) Add Structural Elements
