Getting Fit with Zumba Fitness 2

Momtrends is celebrating everything health and fitness this month and since I have been slacking in that area I was thrilled to test out Zumba Fitness 2, a new dance/fitness program set to upbeat Latin and world rhythms to get my butt (literally) in gear. I love the idea of working out without a traditional gym and the incorporation of dance seemed like a fun way to to sculpt my bod and burn some calories in the comfort of my own home. Plus as a mom of two, it was the ideal energy booster before my busy day began.

As someone who is not an avid exerciser, I was excited to test out a workout system that was loved by over four million users as well as one that incorporated a 24-different dance styles (Merengue, Samba and Cumbia, Bollywood, Latin Pop, Ragga and the Pasodoble, to name a few). The system was also renowned for its energetic instructors and upbeat music featuring Pitbull, Nicole Scherzinger and Yolanda Be Cool and DCUP and an upbeat vibe to keep me going.

Since I was a newbie in Zumba, I loved how the program included a tutorial mode so that I could learn at my own pace where the core dance moves were broken down into the basics. I practiced in this mode for a few minutes before I jumped on to the 20-minute course on medium.

To start the program I followed along the 3D models of celebrity instructors Tanya Beardsley, Gina Grant and Beto who guided me through various game modes like the full class that was available of blocks of 20, 45 or 60 minute formats within a low, medium or high intensity. There are also various environments where you can shake your body like a VIP Pool Party to a Miami Yacht. I opted to play alone but the system could also be played with three additional people as you track your performance and fitness goals.

I loved the upbeat music and the fun choreography that enabled me to challenge myself as I performed dance moves that I never tried before. Throughout the experience I was never bored and I loved that I was sweating and having fun while still burning calories. I also enjoyed having a hands-free workout thanks to the included Zumba Fitness belt that made it I barely realized was even there.

As a Wii exclusive game, I loved the chance to shake, move and dance away some calories while also enjoying a fun program at home. Now that is a fitness resolution I can stick with.

Additional Features of Zumba Fitness 2:

  • Monitors calories burned with a calorie tracker.
  • You can customize a playlist with your favorite music and routines.
