Discover Lea's Story
The 2016 Girl of the Year books were written by award-winning author Lisa Yee. Lea Dives In, Lea Leads the Way and Lea and Camila introduce readers to Lea, an adventurous and curious 10-year-old girl with a passion for photography and animals. Lea and her family are on a trip to Brazil to visit her older brother Zac, who is studying the Amazon rain forest. As a budding photographer, Lea is excited to capture everything she sees on film. Lea soon makes some incredible discoveries, faces unexpected challenges--like her fear of the ocean, and finds an injured baby sloth. With the help of her family and friends, Lea is able to find her inner strength and confidence to take on new adventures and live life to the fullest.

Giving Back with Lea
American Girl always offers an inspirational message for girls--which we love. American Girl created Wild at Art, a year-long fund-raising campaign in support of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to show girls that together, they can make a difference to help protect animals and their habitats.
From January 1 until December 31, for every purchase of one of the three plush animals in Lea's collection (the margay, sea turtle, or sloth), American Girl will donate $1 (up to a maximum of $100,000) to WWF. Seriously, how cute and cuddly is Lea's plush sloth!
There will be several Lea-related initiatives that throughout the year, including a Lea Born for Adventure Paid App, where girls can join Lea in Brazil for the adventure of a lifetime. With beautiful graphics, exclusive content, and endless play, the app retails for $1.99 and is available for download on Americangirl.com/girloftheyear.
