Our family life revolves around the kitchen. And I don't just mean because that's where we get our sustenance. It's where we gather. Where we join in the ritual of coming together for our meals. Where we reconnect and discuss the day's events.
The kitchen is truly the heart of our home. I work hard to make that so.
I work hard to create that opportunity to bond with my kids and my husband, especially because we're a military household. We know we are extraordinarily lucky to have "dad" home most nights for dinner. We don't take that for granted.
Just today, my daughter and I baked some muffins for our friends whose father recently left on a six month deployment. While we mashed bananas and measured ingredients, we talked about why it's important to support our friends and our community. When you live on a remote military base, these friends and neighbors are family.
Baking together with my kids is a win-win situation. We get to spend some precious quiet time together, measuring and blending and scooping and anxiously watching the oven warm. Then we get to share the delicious results with friends as a small token of how much we care.
We get to spread the heart of our home beyond its concrete walls.
Banana Peanut Butter Muffins (with Chocolate Chips!)
I am a sucker for anything banana and peanut butter so we decided to bake the Banana & Peanut Butter Muffin recipe from Country Crock. For a little something extra, we threw in dark chocolate chips. The recipe was simple and easy and the result was a moist and flavorful muffin.
Naturally, I couldn't give them away without some very scientific taste testing. I'm happy to report they were fantastic.
The Country Crock "So Much Good Happens When We Bake" campaign recognizes and celebrates the love and goodness and warmth that comes from spending time together in the kitchen and around the dinner table. Baking as a family gives the opportunity to create something delicious as well as spread the love through (and beyond) your home. Country Crock buttery spread is a go-to ingredient a the heart of baked goods - from chewy cookies, fluffy muffins, moist cakes and more sweetness. (And, of course, don't forget creamy mashed potatoes, hearty casseroles and beyond.)
Country Crock is celebrating moms - who champion goodness in the kitchen every day - with the series of touching "So Much Good Happens When We Bake" videos. They recently surprised mothers with custom 3D printed cookie cutters in the shape of art created by their kids. Can you imagine the delight your kids (and you!) would feel baking cookies in the shape of something they made? Such a special gift. Check out the video below to see how it went down and how the moms reacted.
With the help of a friendly grocery store, Country Crock was able to share with unsuspecting families the good that happens, when we bake. All that was needed were a few colored pencils, the modern magic of a 3D printer, and the reminder that watching a child’s imagination come to life is one of the special joys of baking together.
