How to Summerize the Little Black Dress

My girlfriends have jokingly dubbed my alter-ego "Lydia." And unlike happy, upbeat, shiny Lauren, this Lydia lady is quiet, introverted, painfully pale... Gothic even—much like the Beetlejuice character who inspired the name. Lydia rocks sweatpants on blazing hot days at the beach (for the record, I only did that once!), and wears black maxi dresses to tropical destination weddings (again, one time and I'll never live it down!). Nevertheless, Lydia has an affinity for dark colors and kills summer with her wintery ways.

I've been trying to suppress my inner Lydia this summer, by wearing happy hues and seasonally appropriate styles. But every once in a while I just have to whip out a little black dress. It's so easy and effortless; it's great for work, for play... for dressing up or dressing down. Unlike in the past though, I've challenged myself to keep it summery with fun accessories and bright pops of color. This high-low style is especially flirty and fun for the season. Styled with gold-beaded sandals, a turquoise charm necklace, and a canvas tie-dye tote bag, I think "Lauren" looks pretty chic... Now, if only she could get a tan!
