October is a breath of fresh air... Crisp, cool, invigorating air. Chilly snuggle-up-in-pajamas air.
Really, though, I love everything the month ushers in—pumpkin-spice lattés, colorful foliage, chunky sweaters, and picturesque seasonal scenes... And Halloween, of course!
As an adult without kids, I hated Halloween. But as an adult with children, I’m obsessed. From tricks to treats to candy-crafts to DIY pumpkin projects and the annual hunt for the must-have costume, I relish celebrating every moment of this frightfully fun month with my littles.
This year, I’ve decided to start a new tradition. This year, I'm giving my kids a fresh pair of festive Halloween PJs with a new spooky book. (Because, who doesn’t love some bedtime thrills and chills?)
Cuddle up with a flashlight under the blankets and spend some quality time reading together. I’ve matched the cutest pajamas with my favorite Halloween children’s books. From tales of witches and ghosts to mummies and more, there’s a perfect pairing for every little monster!
My big guy is obsessed with the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Halloween special (inspired by Rocky Horror!), and so I couldn't resist snagging this pair of Mickey jam-jams along with Mickey's Halloween, a lift-the-flap book.
My lady love has been teething up a storm as of late, and will sink her teeth into just about anything—food, toys, human flesh... Give her a tutu and she's pretty much a vampire ballerina. How adorable are these three-piece Cat & Jack jammies from Target! Of course, the book choice was a given: Vampirina Ballerina. It’s not easy being a Vampirina—you have to find a class that meets at night, you have to figure out how to look your best without being able to see your reflection in the mirror, and, most difficult of all, you have to combat the ultimate challenge: stage fright!
Halloween Creature PJs + The Night Before Halloween, by Natasha Wing: Monsters, goblins, witches, and mummies (oh my!). Celebrate all the usual suspects with these adorable Pottery Barn Kid pajamas and this silly rhyming parody book ("'Twas the night before Halloween...")
BOO! Pajama Set + Little Boo, by Stephen Wunderli: Peek-a-boo, we see you! These striped pajamas are simple and sweet—just like your little pumpkin. In these charming book, one little pumpkin tries his hardest to be scary. But he doesn't frighten the snowflakes in the winter or the bees in the spring... At the urging of the wind, Little Boo is patient. Will he ever even scare a fly?
Good Witch Pajama Set + Room on the Broom, by Julia Donaldson: Every bewitching little girl has a sassy, naughty, spellbinding side. Celebrate her crafty ways with these cute Old Navy PJs, and the classic Halloween book, Room on the Broom, about a witch and her cat flying high on a broom. When her hat, bow, and wand each blow away, a crew of helpful animals find and return her missing items. In return, they ask if there’s room on the room to hitch a ride!
Mummy-Wrap PJ Set + Where's My Mummy, by Carolyn Crimi: Baby Mummy wants to play one more game of hide-and-shriek with his Mummy before bedtime. But with lots of creatures lurking in the deep, dark night, he’s a little scared. Good thing he’s got his mama to keep him safe and warm.
Monster PJ Set + Go Away Big Green Monster, by Ed Emberley: As kids turn the pages of this book, they watch the Big Green Monster Grow. But then they get to show him who’s boss and watch it disappear right before their eyes as the story concludes.
Cat-Ghost PJ Set + Scaredy Cat Splat, by Rob Scotton: Splat wants to be the scariest cat in school, but he's too afraid of everything. When Mrs. Wimpydimple tells a scary story in the dark, Splat is so jilted that he tips over his jack-o'-lantern. But when the lights go back on, the entire class is scared silly by a furry black creature with a big pumpkin head. (Hint: It's Splat.)
Great Pumpkin PJ Set + It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, by Charles M. Schulz: The iconic book (and TV special) holds a special place in our hearts. These pajamas celebrate the whole Peanuts gang. Charlie Brown is excited about going to a costume party, as Linus prepares for the arrival of The Great Pumpkin, whom he thinks will rise from the patch and deliver presents to all the boys and girls.
Peanuts PJ Set + You Got a Rock, Charlie Brown, by Charles M. Schulz: It's Halloween—which means time for the Peanuts team to go out and trick or treat. Everyone is excited to put on costumes and get some candy. But when everyone else gets treats, Charlie Brown gets a rock!
