I attended back-to-school night last week at my son’s preschool, and I was totally blown away when the teacher showed me his “This is Me” book.
The last page said, “When I grow up I want to be a: BUILDER!” Underneath, the fill-in-the-blank question was a complex drawing of a brick wall and a skyscraper.
A builder… Totally makes sense to me. This kid dreams in building blocks.
We’ve discovered, tested, reviewed, and, most importantly, playedwith all sorts of interlocking, towering toys and blocks, over here on The Shopping Mama, and to say that our newest additional “stacks up” (get it?) is a vast understatement.

Shape Mags magnetic tile building sets allow budding builders to create 3D castles, bridges, trains, pyramids, and more. This classic set features 100 pieces, including squares, rectangles, triangles, window frames, and two moving bases. Within minutes of opening the box, my little guy built a camp site with tents and tee-pees, erected a rocket, and recreated the castle on the packaging.
What’s also amazing is that Shape Mags are compatible with other magnetic tile brands making it easy to add on to an existing collection.
You can take the experience up a notch and try building near a window, illuminating with a flashlight, or even using an overhead projector to explore shadows and color. My little lady kept putting the tiles up to her eyes like glasses. (She sees the world through rose-colored glasses!... Or, you know, yellow ones.)
