Beauty Review: Younique 3-D Mascara

Image placeholder title

While I'm always excited to try a new beauty product, for me, there's something a little extra special about experimenting with a new mascara. Even though my make up routine can get a little lengthy when the occasion calls for that extra glam factor, on a day-to-day basis I'm usually only wearing about 4 basic products. I totally wish I was one of those beauties that could walk around all day with a bare face and feel as confident as ever but turns out, I'm not 21 anymore and I'm honestly quite thankful for a little extra help these days when I step out to face the world.

I'm sure you're all familiar with the latest craze that's surrounding Younique, more specifically their 3-D mascara. I have so many girlfriends that have recently hosted parties and I've even seen quite a few photos on Instagram with girls showing their "before and after" photos when trying this product out. I will admit, I was a little hesitant at first because it's hard to believe what you see in photos anymore...so it took me a while to buy a set of my own. I only just recently switched over to my now favorite Benefit Mascara, which I love, so I wasn't feeling too motivated to try anything new again yet.

But, about 2 weeks ago, in a moment of weakness and mostly curiosity, I decided I really wanted to try this product out for myself to see what all the fuss was about and today, I'm sharing just a few "before and after" photos (and some tips for use!) of my own on my experience with this mascara.

Just as the product recommends, I used a very light coat of my own mascara before applying the 3-D mascara which I think just gives the gel and fibers from the Younique something to grab onto when you're applying it.

Here are a quick and easy steps :

1. (Optional) Apply a light coat of your own mascara and allow it to dry completely.

2. Apply a coat of the Transplanting Gel (looks and applies just like a black mascara) to your lashes. Do one eye and one lash at a time.

3. Quickly, apply a coat of 3-D fibers to the Transplanting Gel before the gel has a chance to dry! I recommend keeping both tubes in your non-applying hand at a time and just keep the wands resting inside the tubes so it's easy to take them in and out of the product.

4. Set the fibers into place by applying another coat of the Transplanting Gel.

Here's what I thought!

Even though this is a little bit of a process, it moves very quickly and I'm sure over time you could get quite good at it. I've used it a few times this past week, both out on the town and for the less exciting day of errands and I'm happy to say that I actually really like this mascara a lot! (...and I can be tough to please!) In today's photos, I'm sharing what I would consider a look that is good for day-to-day wear. I'm only wearing one coat of the Younique mascara and for me, that was enough to make a dramatic difference without going too over the top. Again - I think this product is going to be all about personal preference!

I wore it out on the town (Vegas!) the other night and felt really comfortable wearing THREE applications of this mascara and I can assure you, it makes a really fun and dramatic difference! Basically what's happening is when you apply the mascara, your adding these tiny black fibers on top of your own eyelashes and they continue to build upon each other with each application that you make which gives it that natural and full appearance. *Make sure you apply enough of the gel after each application of the fibers to make sure they're set in place and don't flake off under your eyes or worse, in your eye.

This product is definitely one that requires patience if you're going to be going the extra mile to make your lashes go for days, I should throw that out there. In my many trial and error experiments, I did notice that if you're not super careful and delicate when piling it on they can turn out looking a little clumpy and instead of looking full they appear extra long and thin because your lashes end up sticking together. That being said, if you're patient and wait for the product to dry in between layers, it has the potential to turn out quite nice.

Speaking from experience, the image above is an accurate representation of how this mascara is intended to look in comparison to your own basic mascara. I love the fullness it brings to my lashes and the rich dark black color it offers. I think in both day and night occasions, you can adjust this mascara to suite your needs and a little is going to go a long way!

If you have any girlfriends offering this product right now, I say give it a go! I not - you can also order directly though their company with the links I've provided throughout the post. Take your time and give it a few test runs before you decide if it's a keeper. Younique also offers the "Love It Guarantee" so if you find that it wasn't a good for you, they'll refund your money - no questions asked. If you're up for a little fun in your daily make up routine or have just always wanted fuller lashes without the fuss of fake lashes, this is definitely a worth while option to explore.

So, what do you think? Have you tried Younique before? Are you a fan of their 3-D mascara? If not, are you willing to give it a test run? We would love to hear what you think!
