Back to Cool: Off to Preschool With Zappos

It’s like I blinked and he’s off to nursery school… My eager three-year-old big boy. (Excuse me while I go get the tissue box!)

My first born’s first day of the much-anticipated “three’s” program is next week, and we’re getting prepared with new supplies, gear, sneakers, and clothes. Picking out a backpack was the easy part for us—the one requirement was that it had to be his favorite color: red. But finding new clothes that make us both happy? Well, that was our big back-to-school challenge.

You see, my mini man has very specific opinions when it comes to what he wears. And I have very high standards. His school-ready outfits need to look good, feel great, fit well, and withstand the test of time (and endure the trials of a toddler!).

If it was up to the G-Man, he’d make every day “pajama day” at school; and so, in the past, we’ve compromised with cozy sweatpants and tee-shirts. Now that he’s off to big-boy school, though, I’m trying to up his style ante, and broaden his horizons with stylish jeans, fun sneakers, and cool styles. But finding the time to shop for these fashion-forward looks has proven to be almost as challenging as squeezing G into a pair of skinny corduroys. Luckily, Zappos has us covered! With all our favorite brands and styles for apparel, shoes, and accessories, they eliminate the waiting game with super-fast free shipping! And items that don’t fit well or feel too constricting for my sweats-loving boy? They can be returned without hassle, without question, and, best of all, without fee!

Skip the Crowds and Take Your Family Skiing in Waterville Valley

After a sizable snow storm over Martin Luther King weekend, there were plenty of lift lines and skiers heading to Vermont. Amazingly, most of them drove right past an awesome resort. I'm encouraging families to skip the crowds on the next winter holiday and take a family ski trip more

Keeping your New Year's resolutions

The New Year is off to a fresh start, and many of us are committed to doing something or many things with more intention this year. But it's tough to stay on track. In fact, “Quitters Day”, which falls on January 14th this year, is the day when most people give up. How can you more

Kids in the Kitchen: Mini Banana Waffle Pies With Peanut Butter Dipping Sauce

School has started back for many (us included!), and today's Kid's in the Kitchen recipe makes for a perfect breakfast or after-school snack. We made ours for an after-school snack the other day and my second grader loved it. We call this recipe Mini Banana Waffle Pies With more

I adore retro styles for my guy—so I ordered him a vintage-inspired Lucky palm-tree tank top, vintage-wash Seven skinny jeans (they’re soft to the touch, which means G will actually wear them!), and a pair of slip-on Converse. They have a hidden Velcro-panel so he can get them on and off his feet by himself—which is huge for us. I also ordered these sneaks a size down in red, but they were too small. (Good thing Zappos will allow me to do a super-easy return!)

These classic New Balance sneakers are just about the cutest things I’ve ever laid eyes on (besides the model, of course). In the past, the G-Man has only wanted to wear his clunky light-up sneaks—but, hallelujah, he actually loves this pair (win!). We styled them with our fave new Seven jeans and a real vintage shirt that used to belong to his uncle. I think my preschooler looks pretty cool—and I know he feels great.

And just like that, I think we’re ready for school…

Well, he is. (Sniff-sniff.)
