Welcome to winter! Fashion can be a little dull when you've got to stay warm. Maybe that's why folks wear fur--to keep things interesting. I bought this fur vest a few seasons ago, and I can assure you, it's never boring.
I've heard from friends that the fur trend can be a little intimidating. So I put together this little video to make styling simpler:
Did that help? The gist of it is to keep things relatively sleek everywhere else. I wouldn't pair this vest with print pants or leopard leggings. I think there's enough going on with the texture of the fur.
Since I didn't want the outfit to look too dated or old, I slipped a bo-ho top from American Eagle--by the way, when I went in they asked me if I was shopping for my kids. I had to restrain myself from hitting the 20-year-old sales clerk who when I told her "No, I'm shopping for myself" replied, "That's so great condescendingly." Hello, AE, plenty of 40+ ladies love your styles.
I digress. The rest of the look was things I previously owned (including the vest). The only thing new is the bo-ho top (about $24.99). I styled it with my Cabi leggings (this one has a leather front) and Joie bootie. Lots of black on the bottom to keep things looking sleek.
One of my top tips is to keep your hair and jewelry simple. When I wear fur, I usually pull my hair back away from my face and wear stud earrings.
I did add a bell sleeve and a boho top to make this a little more playful and less serious. I don't want to look like Cruella D'Ville after all. What do you think friends? Will you be wearing fur or faux fur this winter?
