Syncing Your Style: Beach Cover Ups

Memorial Day is right around the corner and with it always comes with a sense of new beginning, of fresh air and a sigh of relief at the anticipation of the relaxing days ahead. I've already ditched my wool sweaters in favor of brighter and lighter clothing.

Last week I had you, ahem, "covered" in all styles of fashionable sun protective clothing. We've been talking a lot about chic and flattering swimsuits too, but if you're anything like me, you'll be happy to pack a fashionable cover-up for those beach walks, snack runs, and if you're lucky, a refreshing summer beverage (but more likely, the inevitable potty breaks).

I still think sun cover ups should be fun, fashionable and functional. They should show off your best features while giving you the covering you need and want. You should bare in mind that swim wear is not designed to wrap you up in loads of fabric. Pick a beach cover up that is flattering to your best features, in a print or color that compliments your swimsuits and fits well.

I am in love with this chic peacock-colored inspired caftan, it's elegant, bold and oozes ageless style. A girl can dream...

I usually turn to the same type of beach cover-up year after year. It's a black & white dotted sheer pareo that was given to me decades ago. I love that it is versatile; one minute it's a chic dress, a short skirt and then a long cover up.

The tunic can be the more conservative beach cover up but this doesn't mean it has to be boring. Choose a bright color, bold print or shorter length to add enough style to transition right from pool side to picnic lunch with ease and comfort.

I love the sheer sexiness of the bat-wing or asymmetrical beach cover-up. They give just enough coverage to feel less exposed but keep the flirty and summer chic factor amplified.
