Monday Mingle: Staying Warm and Chic in Winter
In the effort to keep it real this winter, I'm trying to avoid heading into studios to shoot. While it's fun to put on spring dresses in January, it's not my reality. showing you spring clothes in January, well that's not really what I'm wearing most days. In the cold weather, it's easy to toss style out the window. This winter I'm on a mission to show you that's it's possible to be chic and warm.
Coat (similar) | boots | leopard gloves | infinity scarf | sunglasses | bracelet
You know the drill. It's time to take the kids to school and then head off to work. So you throw on jeans, comfy boots, a coat and warm hat and boom, you're out the door. Function takes the lead. But with a few tricks you can still stay somewhat stylish AND be warm.
Rule 1: Avoid shapeless puffy coats as long as you can. Minnesota and Wyoming? I feel you. Puffy coats might be the warmest option but they are just so meh. The clean lines of this Tory Burch coat make it seem more like a blazer than a coat. It's plenty warm thanks to the tight weave and I love the color--olive is dark and hides dirt, but it's also a color, not black, which allows it to stand out. It's a few years old, but you get the idea.
Rule 2: Accessorize. It's easy to skip the bling in the cold months. But even a little bracelet can go a long way to helping you stand out.
Rule 3: Add some texture. The bag has a faux croc pattern on it. Since you'll see a lot of the bag in the winter, it's a great time to try for a statement bag.
Rule 4: Grooming counts. It's time to think highlights and about skincare. I amp up my moisturizer in the winter and make sure my brows are in good shape. My nose and mouth are often hidden under a scarf. Usually you can only see my brows and eyes. A great reason to make sure I keep up with the beauty maintenance routine.
These are my rules for getting through winter in style. Do you have your own rules? And you lucky warm-weather girls, I can't wait to live vicariously through your pictures.
