Out of Print's Classic Lit Kid T-Shirts


If I see another TV/movie character in my daughter'??s wardrobe, I'??m going to scream. I usually end up weeding out 50% of them when I go through hand-me-down clothes from family friends. One princess for her. One princess back in the bag.

Don'??t get me wrong. Snow White is lovely. And I adore Dora. I just want a little more intelligent fashion'?¦literally. And I mean that. Literally.

I was happy to be introduced to Out of Print, a New York City-based fashion brand created by avid readers Jeff LeBlanc and Todd Lawton. This line of clothing celebrates the world'??s great stories through fashion by featuring iconic and often out of print book covers. Think '??Moby Dick'?,'??A Catcher in the Rye'?, '??Of Mice and Men'?, '??Lolita.'? Each shirt has a soft vintage feel and is treated to feel soft and worn like a well-read book. Minus the library musty smell, I must say.

They recently launched their new line of kid'??s shirts. I consider these complete standouts in a world of Disney and cartoon characters. The unisex collection includes five classic adult literature titles: "Moby-Dick," "Catcher in the Rye," "Pride and Prejudice," "The Origin of Species," and "Brave New World." Dare I dream that introducing my daughter to these classics early on will mean her actually reading them eventually (no offense to Mr. Cliff and his Notes)?

Something else I adore (almost as much as Dora) is that for each shirt sold, Out of Print donates a book to a community in need through their partner Books for Africa. In just one year, Out of Print has been responsible for the donation of over three full-size sea containers carrying over 70,000 books to Kenya, Tanzania and Cameroon among other countries.

Talk about book smart fashion.
