It's so good to have the perfect LBD sitting in your closet. No one makes good decisions when a last-minute invitation rolls in and you try to find a dress in a pinch. If you're like me, you end up settling for something so-so rather than wearing something that makes you feel fabulous.
This holiday I scored a great Black Lace Shift Dress from Leota.com that I plan to wear to loads of parties. Cut in a classic style, this shift dress is more of an investment than a splurge. It's going to look great now, and in a few years as you keep reaching for it in your closet.
For this weekend's party, I dressed it up with a big layered pearl necklace. But it's equally fun to add some arm candy with a bold bracelets or some chandelier earrings. I love the illusion lace bracelet sleeves--I could definitely see this dress with a big cuff bracelet. And for women who don't like how their arms look when exposed, this dress offers coverage without looking even the slightest bit dowdy.
What keeps it young and fresh? The short hemline. It's not so short that it's scandalous, but it most certainly shows off the legs.
Note: the mirrored sculpture backdrop is so cool. It's in my backyard here in Brooklyn Bridge Park. This exhibition by Danish artist Jeppe Hein is park of a parkwide installation, Please Touch the Art. The Mirror Labyrinth, featuring evenly-spaced vertical elements of varying heights made from mirror-polished stainless steel that multiply the surrounding landscape. The great thing about a LBD is that you can dress it up or down with accessories. I have a helpful video about styling a LBD here on youtube. The key is to keep re-inventing your dress with different accessories.
