No I'm not insane suggesting that our offspring--those who forgo napkins and bibs for their tees or better yet mom's jeans--wear expensive threads. My point dear reader is that cashmere has a place and time. Take it from Donna Strugatz, the doyenne of high-end kids fashion at her nomadic shop Kidini. Kidini offers seasonal sample sales here in NYC. Donna's connected to all the top designers and snatches up their excess and offers it at steep discounts for NYC's fashion hounds.
Donna says cashmere is well suited and practical for children because it is toasty warm and soft and therefore quite practical! Her favorites? eyeSpy baby (see photos on this page) and Bambeeno Cashmere. Donna adores eyeSpy baby's beautiful detailing and wonderful color combinations in sweaters, onesies, and dresses for baby and toddler. Her other pick, Bambeeno Cashmere, delivers the quintessential classic cables and hoodies in rich fall hues like tobacco, lilac and turquoise
Kidini is the place to buy cashmere! Donna offers prior season inventory. And since classic cashmere never goes out of style, cashmere can become the new wool. In you're in NYC check out the The Kidini Fall/Winter Discount Designer Clothing Sale Event. There are more than 3000 pieces of designer gems for children and women offered at recession-friendly pricing (read 20%-80% off retail).

Now onto one of my most coveted brands for babes, Eyespy. Rowan Mestecky (the mastermind behind this cashmere collection) was generous to share her take on the world of luxury knits.
Q. What are some trends you are spotting in kids fashion for fall?
I am seeing a lot of darker colors and more of an earthy palette - especially in the purple family. I also see a lot of knitwear - the cosier the better - with lots of texture. This fall I was drawn towards dark purples and greens, blues that are almost black as well as natural 'oatmeal' colors. They offset brighter shades like mustard yellow, poppy red, and aqua beautifully.
Q. Is there any correlation between runway fashions and baby fashions?
A. I don't really like the idea of babies and children as fashion statements. It does happen though, especially with all the womenswear and menswear designers who now offer children's clothing as well. In these case it is bound to be related.
Q. What is your kid's fashion pet peeve?
A. Dressing kids up as little adults. Childhood is precious and too short as it is.
Q. Personal style icon?
A. I don't really have one. I just soak up what I like at the time. I am always looking.
I've shown a smattering of their designs on the page. How sweet is the feature picture! If you're not in NYC attending the Kidini event, find eyeSpy baby at upscale baby boutiques and online and Arte Bebe (use your 15% Momtrends Discount code: COOLBOYS)
