I’m sort of a homebody. Okay, I’m totally a homebody. So, when it comes to date night, nine times out of 10, I’ll opt for a quiet evening at home on the couch with a nice bottle of wine, a bar of good chocolate, and my Netflix queue ready to go. (And, yes, my husband is usually invited to join me.)
This applies to Valentine’s Day as well. In fact, my favorite Feb. 14th to date, involved sweatpants, fuzzy slippers, and sleeping bags. My husband, Dan, and I had spent the day moving into our new, totally unfurnished NYC apartment—we were exhausted, spent, and ravenous. So, Dan ran out and got us two uncooked lobsters, a whole lot of butter, and a few cans of Sofia champagne. We found some straws, dug out a big steaming pot, and enjoyed a lovely dinner on our bedroom floor—cracking lobster shells with the same hammer we had been hanging pictures with earlier that day. This was, of course, before we had kids. Nowadays, I wouldn’t dare bang a hammer after 8 PM.
Throughout the years, my husband and I have had some amazing V-Day evenings at home together, out on the town, and with our little family. Really, there’s no right or wrong—and there’s no losing. As long as I’m spending time with loved ones, I’m exactly where I want to be.
Whether you’re dining out at a fancy restaurant, heading to your local movie theater (50 Shades of Grey, anyone?), or making heart-shaped cookies and crafts at home as a family, I’ve curated a few perfect pieces for your ideal option. Whatever your definition of “date night,” you’ll love these three stylish looks.
