Momtrends Dazzling Design Event

The energy is still buzzing from the recent Momtrends Dazzling Design event hosted at interior designer, Maria Drattell'??s chic home in NYC. Design mavens gathered for inspirational ideas for decorating every room in the home.

Kicking off the evening was an intimate tour of Maria'??s home where she shared her passion, knowledge and skills for creating bold and elegant spaces. Maria'??s eclectically designed, pristinely wallpapered home is an extension of her personality, her love of beautiful things, and most importantly, the foundation of her design concepts.

Select practical home furnishings with an emotional connection.
Spend more for better quality. Make sacrifices to get them, if needed.
Stick with classic pieces and the occasional trendy one.
Mix shapes and textures- avoid too much of the same.
Choose one thing you love for each room and build around it.

Jill Vegas continued to dazzle the crowd with more expert tips to creating a space you love to live in now. She emphasized the importance of getting in touch with your inner designer and charged the group to choose a personal design project, share it with another guest and commit to doing it now. How many of you have started?

Next, Maria and Jill were faced with two design challenges from the audience. Mae Hacking ( received sound advice from Maria on how to transform her drab kitchen with minimal work (for full details on Meg's Solutions visit and storage space into a functional, practical space. Maria suggested adding an island, decorative shelves and/or a baker'??s rack, removing the garbage cans, laying a colorful rug, and painting the cabinets white. Good luck Mae!

Jill'??s challenge was to help Jessica with her daughter'??s overcrowded, unruly bedroom. Jill suggested getting the room '??naked'? - removing all of the stuff and then returning only the items that are being used. She also advised confining the toys to one basket and donating the others to charity, and buying an organizational structure with bins to provide clarity and function. Good luck Jessica!

Guests were wowed by customized art from Lillunia and Sam Simon. The artists mingled with guests and brought to life their exquisitely mastered pieces. They expressed the value of art in decorating your home and emphasized the importance of designing the room around art rather than the room then art, establishing a focal point and an emotional connection to the space.
