The big players in the kiddie market are finally seeing green. Gap and Pottery Barn have introduced lines that are adorable, affordable and easy on the environment.
Pottery Barn Kids has a full line of organic bedding, linens and clothes for tots. Sweet organic overalls are on final sale for $16.99. I also like their organic cotton polka dot towels (also on sales for $24.99).
Not to be outdone by their rivals, Gap is getting into designing kiddie bedding and clothes with a nod towards the earth. The mix-and-match bedding includes bed skirts, crib sheets and more all made with 100% organic cotton. The Safari crib sheet is a great place to start building a nursery theme. ($19) From there, I'd add in the Organic Mix & Match Bumper (sale $79.50) The gift collection includes a variety of eco-friendly products like burp clothes ($10), toys and clothing basics.
It sure is nice that the retail big boys are going green. But being environmentally savvy is still tricky at times. I found a great "cheat sheet" from Cookie Magazine. Their "Green Home Guide" gives room-by-room instructions to make your home enviro-chic. In the laundry room, they recommend Ecover and Ecos.
