Fruit & Yogurt Smoothies

We love the summer for the abundance of fresh fruit! So many varieties to try each week at great in-season prices. On the flip side, the extremely hot temperatures in Texas can make the summer a bit less than enjoyable, and many of our favorite fruit treats involve using the oven.

We've solved that problem by making fresh fruit smoothies --to beat the heat and enjoy our favorite summer fruits. Even better, they are so simple to make, even toddlers can help. Most toddlers love to help Mama "cook" and adding ingredients to the blender and pushing the buttons are a perfect way to make their own drinks. My own children were always so proud to serve their own milkshakes to Daddy! They are also a great way to get an extra serving of fruit into the daily rotation, who doesn't like a yummy, healthy drink?

Our Favorite No-Fail Recipe:
1 cup vanilla yogurt
1 medium banana
1 cup crushed raspberries (or about 1.5 cups whole raspberries)
Milk if needed

Pour yogurt into the blender.
Peel banana & break into several pieces. Add to yogurt & puree till smooth.
Add berries & puree again.
If the mixture seems to thick, add milk slowly & continue to puree.
Serve immediately, garnished with a few extra berries.

We also love this with strawberries or blackberries, it all depends what is in season and available at the time. To read more about our food adventures check out www.bentolunch.blogspot.com and our family at www.nouveausoccermom.blogspot.com.
