Recycle Your Breast Pump

Wasteful! That's what I thought when I had to get rid of my Medela Pump In Style after a year of breastfeeding. I simply hate waste, but everything I read said the pump could not be safely passed along to a girlfriend. Now there is an answer: a new "earth-friendly" breast pump from Hygeia.

The Hygeia EnJoye ($259 and up) is a professional grade electric breast pump that has received FDA clearance to be used by multiple users. This means a mom can pass along her pump to a friend when she'??s done, sell it, or return it to Hygeia for recycling and reuse. Bravo! With approximately 2 million breast pumps purchased each year, there are a lot of pumps clogging our landfills (two from me--yikes!)

Hygeia pumps are made from recyclable materials and can be recycled when returned to Hygeia. They also come with a reusable lithium ion battery that is rechargeable and lasts up to four hours. And for you moms that have to pump at the office, here's a way to get the milk flowing--Hygeia C.A.R.E.s. C.A.R.E. stands for "Customized, Audio, Recording, Experience"--a button that lets mom record and playback her baby'??s cry or other sound. We give the masterminds behind this brand a big thumbs up.

Note: Each mom will have to purchase her own Personal Accessory Set (PAS is about $35)--but really that's not a big deal. Have any of you tried this brand? I'm eager to get feedback on the performance, but think they are making huge strides in eco-packaging.

Momtrends was not paid for this post. We think breastfeeding is beautiful, but never want to make mom who are unable to breastfeeding feel guilt.
