Katie Brown's Outdoor Summer Entertaining Ideas

Summer Tips

Who doesn't love to entertain outdoors? The summer months mark the perfect time to swoon your friends with a festive party. Whether you are an urban or suburban dweller, these hostess tips are for you.

I had the opportunity to meet Katie Brown, a lifestyle and entertaining expert, at a recent event held at the posh NYC St. James Hotel outdoor terrace. Being the hostess with the mostess is simple, according to Katie. She is as lovely a hostess as are her ideas. I adore her practical approach and endless energy.

Here's how to WOW your guests at your next outdoor gathering:

Flower Power: Always have flowers spread around to add color and beauty. Mixing fruit with the flowers is a sure win for a centerpiece. We had a ball creating our own flower masterpiece at the event.

Keep it Bright: Always have candles and lighting torches. The stylish new OFF! Limited Edition Decorative Citronella Candle is perfect for outdoor entertaining.

Self-Serve Station: Give your guests a sense of control over what they are eating and drinking. Use cupcake liners as lids to mason jars filled with food or try using festive straws or freezing water balloons to keep the cooler items cold.

Be Prepared: Summer heat often means bugs. Combat the insects with personal repellents, like OFF! Clip On and OFF! Deep Woods.

Make it Fun for Adults and Kids: Try having a bubble refill station for kids or a cookie decorating station for adults and kids. They make great party favors.

Take Home Goodies: A departing gift featuring a reminder of the soiree makes your guests feel special. Try giving a small bag of seeds with growing instructions or a container of biscuits and jam.

Have fun and enjoy the outdoors this summer!

Disclosure: Momtrends was not paid for this post. I received a complimentary dinner and a goody bag.
