When it comes to moms, I have been very lucky. My mom is a gem and is a wonderful "Grammy" too. But here's the thing, we've had 40+ years to get to know each other. The family you marry into, well those rules are different. I'm lucky that my mother-in-law is healthy, active and involved in our lives. Since they live nearby, we often host them for casual dinners. Unlike when I have my mom over, there are certain expectations when entertaining your mother-in-law.
Maybe you have different rules and standards, but for me, I put in a little extra effort when she's coming over--and have my cleaning tools from Clorox® at the ready sure comes in handy.
Mr. Momtrends and I review the calendar on Sundays. This week we saw a few gaps on the calendar and sent over a last-minute dinner invite for Tuesday. We quickly decided on the menu (things we already had on hand) and I took it from there (note: Mr.Momtrends and the kids agree to help with table setting and clean up if I am head chef).
Entertaining Your Mother-in-Law
I don't do a deep clean with guests, more of a power clean. I take a few minutes to make the sure entryway is clear of debris (you know sneakers, backpacks, sports equipment). Next I head to the bathroom that guests use--the one with the easiest access is also shared by the girls. Thankfully, we have a shelving unit with a door on it that hides all the toiletries.
I give the toilet a good clean (I only use the Clorox® disposable toilet brush–the idea of keeping a toilet brush around give me the creeps). The Clorox® ToiletWand® System makes quick deep cleaning doable and well, a lot less icky. Pop a refill head onto the top of the wand. Scrub away to unleash preloaded Clorox® Toilet Bowl Cleaner, then toss the head away. No need to keep that mess around!
To finish, I quickly wipe down the sink with Clorox® Scentiva™ Multi-Surface Cleaner. Thanks to the new light scents, my bathroom smells like lavender, not cleaning products. No need for a scented candle!
Have you checked out the new Clorox® Scentiva™ products? They are a must for multi-tasking mamas like me who need to clean in a flash. I expect Clorox products to clean and disinfect, but Scentiva™ takes it a step further and deodorizes and freshens my home.

Stylish Beach Accessories for a Day in the Sun, Sand, and Surf
I've been coveting this Eugenia Kim sun hat that's been all over Instagram for the past two months. With a wide-brim and the words "Do Not Disturb" embroidered on the front, it's the ideal accessory for a quiet day of reading on the beach. Built-in shade, some peaceful privacy, ...read more
Flowers are a must. Right now even the grocery stores have lovely tulips in stock. I picked up this bundle at Fairway and tossed them in a vase–voila! The room was ready. Plus, since I had wiped the counters clean with Clorox® Scentiva™ Disinfecting Wipes, the living room and kitchen smell great too. Pick from two new scents: Tuscan Lavender & Jasmine and Hawaiian Sunshine™. To help you make up your mind on the fragrance, Clorox® has a new scratch and sniff packaging so you can try before you buy.
Honestly, this clean-up took me 15 minutes (with help from the kiddos when it came time to organize stuff and gear). So we planned a little surprise. My 9 year-old gave them a little welcome concert. Hey! All that money I'm spending on piano lessons paid off!
We normally sit down for dinner 5-6 nights a week and have all the protein, veggies and grains planned out. But I wanted to show my MIL that I put in a little extra effort, so I prepped these fun veggies. I shop the produce aisle with a keen eye for what's new. I loved the rainbow of cauliflower I found. We picked purple and gold and then did a simple recipe.
East Roasted Cauliflower Recipe: Clean, chop and dry the cauliflower, toss in a large mixing bowl with 1/4 cup EVOO and 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp cumin. Mix well, roast at 400 degrees for 45 minutes. They will be sweet and delish, I promise.
