March 2nd is Read Across America, a day set aside by to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday and to emphasize that reading is fun! Here's how you can get in on celebrating at home and in your community.
Here are a few of our favorite Dr. Seuss books:
2: Dress the Part
When my daughter was in kindergarten they had a parade at her school to celebrate the day and she choose to be Thing 2 along with another friend. The costume was super easy to make with a red skirt and a red t-shirt. For the wig we took blue felt, sewed it into a tube, put a rubber band above where we wanted the hat to fit, and cut the felt into strips. Super easy and inexpensive.
3: Eat like a Dr. Seuss Character
Why not start the day with some green eggs and ham? Or how about some Whoville hash? We love the recipes that are available at Seussville. A few of our favorites are easy to make and sure to bring on big smiles:
The Cat's Hat Kabobs
One Fish Two Fish Snacks
4: Throw a Dr. Seuss Party
A few weeks ago Catherine showed us how to throw an amazing Dr. Seuss party with the help of Birthday Express. You can check out the post here for tons of great ideas on throwing the perfect party.
If you live near a Barnes and Noble many are throwing their own parties for Read Across America so if having one at home isn't feasible you can go to their website, www.barnesandnoble.com to find a store and times for events near you.
